...
or "What on earth am
I *doing* here?!"
If
you type "Guiding"
into any search engine you
will come up with a huge
number of sites on a variety
of topics, mostly either
religious or travel-oriented.
Hidden in amongst them you
will also find sites for
what used to be called "Girl
Guides" and that is
the kind of "Guiding"
I am involved in!
The
dictionary defines "guiding"
as 'leading, conducting
or directing,' and gives
two meanings of the verb
"guide" as 'direct
another in his course of
life' and 'show the way,
determine direction or course
of conduct.' (Chambers)
This was exactly what Lord
Robert Baden-Powell and
his sister Agnes had in
mind when they set up the
Girl Guides in 1910 and
is also the reason why the
organisation's adult leaders
are now called Guiders,
moving away from the former
militaristic "Captain"
and "Lieutenant."
This
website charts my journey
through the Guides from
a very reluctant member
of the Nightingale Patrol
to my present-day 24/7 responsibilities
within the Guide Association.
Just click on the buttons
below for details, anecdotes
and photos of a sometimes
hilarious and always interesting
journey!

I
no longer put Guestbooks
on my new sites because
of the amount of spam that
is attempted to be posted
on my existing sites' Guestbooks:
they are all moderated so
none of it gets through,
but even so I have to go
to the trouble of deleting
it and it can be anything
up to 30 posts a day and
I have better things to
do with my time! If you
genuinely want to get in
touch with me, please
.
